The Music of What Happens: Poems that Tell Stories

For hundreds of years poets have been writing story poems, from the Odyssey to "The Shooting of Dan McGrew." I thought it was time for a collection of narrative poems that were written by contemporary poets. This is the only anthology I created, by the way, that does not have sections in it. I wanted the book to have the feeling of one big story, so I arranged the poems without the usual section breaks. The title comes from an Irish fairy tale in which the chief of an Irish tribe declares, "The music of what happens, that is the finest music in the world."
